Kaiser Wilhelm II Shaft

Kaiser Wilhelm II Shaft

With a depth of 1023 m, a "man engine", a steam-powered hoist and a "water-engine", which used the pressure of a column of water above to drive pumps, hoists etc., the Kaiser Wilhelm II Shaft was the central hoisting shaft and access point for the miners in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

Today the site is the premises of the Harzwasserwerke water company and is accessible for visitors at any time. Display boards explain the individual installations. During the daytime it is possible to enter the shaft building and the hoisting machine hall.
